Antique Alabaster Peep Egg - Matlock England c. 1880

This hand-painted, antique alabaster peep egg was made as a souvenir of Matlock, which is a town in Derbyshire, England. Based on similar pieces, we estimate that the egg was produced around 1880. It contains painted views of the town of Matlock (second photo) and Chatsworth House (third photo) along with a selection of minerals (fourth photo). The top contains a magnifying glass to view the three scenes. This piece stands 4.5" tall, 2.25" across at the base and the egg itself is about 2.5" across, not including the knobs.
