Hand-colored engraving from The Natural History of New York | Division 1. Zoology of New York: Part II, Birds (1844) by James Ellsworth De Kay. Only 300 copies were originally issued with hand-colored plates. The vast majority of the approximately 3,000 copies printed had uncolored, or plain, plates. This is Plate 24 | Figure 121: Carolina Tit (Parus carolinensis / Poecile carolinensis), Figure 122: Morning Warbler (Sylvia philadelphia / Geothlypis philadelphia), Figure 123: Yellow-Throat (Trichas personatus / Geothlypis. Sheet measures 8 3/4" x 11 1/4". The engraving is in very good condition with only minor toning.
