Mid-Century Biomorphic Surrealist Impasto Oil Painting, Unsigned, c. 1940s

Original unsigned oil painting on board, mid-20th century, in the abstract surrealist/early abstract expressionist manner. Rendered with heavy impasto and palette-knife texture in a rich palette of maroon, gray, teal, ochre, and orange, the composition combines gestural abstract passages with small biomorphic, almost Miró-like forms, a pennant-topped wand, a standing bottle shape, floating black silhouettes, suggesting a New York School or European surrealist-influenced hand of the late 1940s. Unsigned; artist unidentified. Board measures 14" x 18" (unframed). Good vintage condition with fine craquelure in the thicker paint passages consistent with genuine age; please examine photos closely, including edges and verso, as part of the description. A textural, gallery-ready piece with strong wall presence for a mid-century modern or abstract expressionist collection.
