Original mid-century watercolor and mixed-media work on paper, signed and dated 1950 at lower right. The highly expressive composition combines watercolor washes in blue, turquoise, pink, purple and yellow with energetic black ink lines. The central elongated figure and surrounding geometric structures appear suggestive of a circus, acrobatic or theatrical subject, although the imagery is deliberately abstract. The artist's inscription at lower right is somewhat unusual and appears to incorporate a stylized initial or symbol followed by lettering and “’50.” We have intentionally not assigned a definitive artist attribution. A very interesting example of postwar/mid-century abstract figurative art, suitable for collectors of works on paper, modernism and 20th-century abstraction. Sheet size: approximately 14.75 inches wide × 19.5 inches high, unframed.
Authentic vintage mid-century condition. Executed on heavy watercolor paper. Unframed, showing natural paper age toning, minor corner wear, and water staining along the right margin edge consistent with age and studio storage. Please study all photographs carefully for condition.
