Vintage 1940s Cubist Abstract Cityscape Painting, Oil on Board, Unsigned

Original unsigned oil painting on board, mid-20th century, in the cubist tradition. A fractured composition of intersecting diagonal lines in deep red, black, teal, and slate blue forms an abstract architectural or cityscape framework over a rich ground of golden ochre and pale blue. Rendered with heavy impasto and confident, gestural brushwork consistent with School of Paris-influenced cubist painting of the 1940s. Unsigned; artist unidentified. Verso bears an original hand-drawn pencil sketch of a figure (best viewed rotated 180 degrees from the front composition) -- further evidence of the work's originality and a glimpse into the artist's process. Board measures 14" x 18" (unframed). Good vintage condition with light craquelure and surface wear consistent with age and additional wear at the lower right and left corners; please review photos closely as part of the description. A bold, texturally rich composition suited to a collector of cubist or constructivist-influenced abstraction.
