This print (plate) is from the Album of Decorative Figures by John Moyr Smith (1839–1912), published by Sampson Low, Marston, Searle & Rivington - Crown Buildings, Fleet Street, London in 1882. Moyr Smith was a prolific figure in the Aesthetic Movement, most famous for his ceramic tile designs for Minton’s, but he was also a highly skilled etcher and book illustrator. This plate, no. XXXIII, is a sketch of part of a panel featuring Queen Katherine from Shakespeare's play Twelfth Night. This work was done for a Mr. John G. Crace. The sheet measures about 14.5" x 11" and, while a little rough around the edges, the artwork is intact with what appears to be sufficient room for matting and framing.
