Modernist Canyon Landscape | Watercolor on Board | Edward A. Davidson | 1956

Original 1956 watercolor painting on artist board by mid-century American artist and illustrator Edward A. Davidson (1909–1987) signed "Davidson" and dated 1956, lower left. This delicate modernist landscape depicts a panoramic valley view framed by towering rock formations and canyon cliffs. The artist uses structural, post-impressionist watercolor strokes in earthy terra cotta tones, ochre, muted greens, and soft blues. The composition is neatly enclosed within hand-drawn framing lines. Board measures 7.5" x 10" (unframed).

Very good vintage condition overall. Colors remain soft and well-preserved on the board. Unframed, showing minor, natural age-toning along the outer margins of the board. Signed and dated clearly in ink in the lower-left corner. Please review all high-resolution photos for exact condition, color tone, and border details.

Edward A. Davidson did spot and larger illustrations and small paintings for Gourmet, Harper's, and other magazines in the 1950s and 1960s. He also sold hundreds of his drawings and paintings from a small shop/gallery on East 4th Street in Greenwich Village, through the gallery of Julius Carlebach, a few other Manhattan galleries and dealers and through many art and antique shows.
